Honest Overdrive is free VST distortion effect. It's a simple quality workhorse plug-in for general distortion needs.
Most overdrives effects work by boosting a signal until it's clipped by a fixed distortion curve. Honest Overdrive uses the reverse approach. It increases the sensitivity of the distortion curve until it clips a fixed signal.

Clipping Threshold: Sets the level at which clipping begins.
Softness Amount: Sets how soft the clipping is. For example, if it is set for "+12dB," then the distortion will max out at 12dB above the clipping threshold.
Overdriven: Indicates that the signal has exceeded the clipping threshold.
Maximum Saturation: Indicates that the overdrive is at it's limit, and it can be overdriven no further.
Oversampling: Sets the oversampled frequency. The plug-in's internal samplerate is always a fixed multiple of a standard frequency. For the setting "8x (44, 48)" the multiplier is 8x and the standard frequency is either 44.1kHz or 48.0kHz.
