Honest Overdrive is free VST distortion effect. It's a simple quality workhorse plug-in for general distortion and saturation needs.

Most overdrives effects work by boosting a signal until it's clipped by a fixed distortion curve. Honest Overdrive uses the reverse approach. It increases the sensitivity of the distortion curve until it clips the signal. Having a non-linear region with an adjustable size, Honest Overdrive is great for hard clipping, barely noticeable saturation, and everything in between.

Summary of Parameters

Clipping Threshold: Sets the level at which clipping begins.

Softness Amount: Sets how soft the clipping is. For example, if it is set for "+12dB," then the distortion will max out at 12dB above the clipping threshold.

Overdriven: Indicates that the signal has exceeded the clipping threshold.

Maximum Saturation: Indicates that the overdrive is at it's limit, and it can be overdriven no further.

Oversampling: Sets the frequency that the signal is oversampled to. The menu options are shown as a fixed multiple of a standard frequency. For example, the setting "8x (44, 48)," has multiplier of 8x, a standard frequency of either 44.1kHz or 48.0kHz, and an internal frequency of either 352.8kHz or 384.0kHz.
